A memorial casting is a timeless and heartfelt way to preserve the memory of a loved one after they have passed. Each casting captures an exact replica of their hand — preserving every line, wrinkle, and fingernail in exquisite detail.
Little Angel Casting visits the person’s place of rest, at home, hospital, or funeral home, to gently take a mould of their hand. The process is carried out with the highest level of care, sensitivity, and respect.
The process begins with the careful preparation of a gentle, skin-safe alginate — a natural moulding material commonly used in medical and dental settings. This material is respectfully applied around your loved one’s hand, capturing every exquisite detail with precision, including the unique lines and textures.
We are committed to treating every family with the utmost care, respect, and sensitivity throughout the entire process.
The casting procedure is carried out with minimal movement of your loved one, ensuring their dignity is preserved at all times. Kirsty works quietly and respectfully, maintaining a calm and peaceful environment from start to finish.
Our aim is to provide comfort and reassurance during this delicate time, while creating a lasting and meaningful keepsake that honours your loved one.
Each casting is a deeply personal and lasting tribute that honours the special bond shared between loved ones.
We understand that, for some, being present during the casting process may feel too emotional or overwhelming. Please know that it is entirely your choice — you are welcome to be present, but it is not necessary.
If you prefer not to attend, we are honoured to carry out the casting privately and will treat your loved one with the utmost care, dignity, and respect throughout.
Before the appointment, we will confirm the scheduled time with you and always ask which hand you would like us to cast.
Once the casting is complete and we have returned to our studio, we will send a message to let you know how the appointment went.
After the appointment, once we have returned to our studio, the mould is carefully filled with a high-quality, durable plaster to create the lifelike replica of your loved one’s hand.
This process captures every intricate detail — from the texture of the skin to the smallest lines — resulting in a beautiful and lasting keepsake to cherish for years to come.
Once the casting has been poured, the mould is carefully stored in a safe, controlled environment to allow it to dry fully. This step is essential to ensure the strength, quality, and fine detail of the final piece.
We understand this is a sensitive and emotional time, so we will not contact you during this period unless necessary. When the casting is nearly ready for finishing, we will reach out to guide you through the next steps and discuss your preferences.
You will be able to choose from four cast colour finishes, and the completed hand will be mounted on a marble base — available in black or white — to complement your selection.
To make your memorial casting even more meaningful, you may choose to add a personalised engraving to the marble base.
This can be a name, date, a short message, or even a replica of your loved one’s handwritten note or signature — a truly touching way to honour their memory in a deeply personal way.
